Stainless Steel Insect Screen
Stainless steel window screen, also known as stainless steel insect screen or fly screen mesh, is a fine plain-weave mesh of stainless steel wire used in windows and doors to keep out insects while letting in air and light.
Fine insect screen mesh in rolls. Custom mesh, wire, widths and lengths available.
Stainless steel window screen is woven from fine stainless steel wire in a plain weave. It is stronger and lasts longer than fiberglass screen, does not sag or tear easily, and is hard for pets, birds and rodents to damage.
The mesh count sets what the screen keeps out. 14 and 16 mesh give the most airflow and still stop flies and mosquitoes; 18 × 16 is the most common window screen; 20 × 20 also stops very small insects such as midges.
304 stainless steel is the standard grade. 316 is recommended near the sea. A black coating reduces glare, so the screen is less visible from inside and the view looks clearer.

Stainless steel is stronger, lasts longer and is harder for pets and rodents to damage. Fiberglass is lighter, cheaper and easier to install. For long life or coastal use, choose stainless steel.
Mesh count is the number of wires per inch in each direction. 18 × 16 means 18 wires per inch one way and 16 the other. A higher count gives smaller openings.
16 × 16 and 18 × 16 mesh keep out mosquitoes and flies. Choose 20 × 20 if you also need to stop very small insects such as midges.
304 stainless steel resists rust in normal conditions. Near the sea, use 316, which contains molybdenum for better resistance to salt.
The black coating reduces reflection, so the screen is less visible from inside and the view outside looks clearer.
