High-Security Barrier

Razor Wire

Razor wire, also known as razor barbed wire or concertina wire, is a security barrier made of punched steel tape with sharp blades crimped tightly around a high-tensile core wire, supplied in coils or straight lengths.

What is razor wire?

Razor wire is made by punching sharp blades from galvanized or stainless steel tape and crimping the tape around a core wire. Unlike barbed wire, the blades are designed to cut, so it is much harder to climb over or pull through.

The blade type sets how aggressive the barrier is. BTO blades are short and closely spaced, with BTO-22 the most widely used. CBT blades are long and spaced further apart, with CBT-65 used for maximum deterrence.

Concertina coils are clipped at several points so they open into a cross-pattern barrier. Single coils open as a plain spiral, flat wrap lies flat along a wall or fence, and straight lengths are fixed between posts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between razor wire and barbed wire?

Barbed wire has short twisted wire barbs. Razor wire has punched steel blades with sharp edges crimped onto a core wire, making it much harder to climb or cut through.

What do BTO-22 and CBT-65 mean?

BTO and CBT are blade types; the number is the blade length in millimetres. BTO-22 has short, closely spaced blades. CBT-65 has long blades for maximum deterrence.

What is concertina razor wire?

It is a coil clipped together at three or five points per loop, so when stretched it opens into a cross-pattern barrier rather than a simple spiral.

How long is one coil when installed?

Typically 8–15 m, depending on coil diameter and the number of clips. Larger coils with more clips cover less length but form a denser barrier.

Galvanized or stainless steel?

Hot-dip galvanized razor wire suits most sites. Stainless steel lasts longer in coastal and humid areas and keeps its appearance.

What information do you need for a quotation?

Blade type, coil diameter, type (concertina, single coil, flat wrap or straight), material, quantity, and the destination port.
