What is chain link fence?

Chain link mesh is woven, not welded: each wire is bent into a zig-zag and hooked into the next, forming diamond openings. The woven structure is flexible, so it follows uneven ground and can be supplied in long rolls that are quick to install.

A complete fence uses round steel posts, a top rail and tension wire to hold the mesh tight. Tension bars and bands fix the mesh at end, corner and gate posts; ties fix it to line posts and rails.

It is an economical choice for residential, commercial, sports and industrial boundaries. Mesh is available in hot-dip galvanized, electro-galvanized or PVC-coated wire.

Chain link fence selvage options shown on one diamond: knuckle-knuckle, knuckle-twist and twist-twist
Selvage options: knuckled edges are folded and smooth; twisted edges end in sharp points. Specify the top and bottom edge when ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between chain link and welded mesh fence?

Chain link mesh is woven from interlocking wires and supplied in flexible rolls. Welded mesh fence uses rigid panels with welded joints.

What does selvage mean?

Selvage is the finish of the top and bottom edges. Knuckle edges are folded and smooth; twisted edges end in sharp points for added security.

How is wire diameter measured for PVC-coated mesh?

Two sizes are given: the metal core diameter and the overall diameter including the PVC coating. Please state both when you enquire.

Do you supply posts and fittings?

Yes. We supply line posts, terminal posts, top rails and all tension fittings for a complete fence.

Can the fence follow uneven ground?

Yes. The woven mesh is flexible and can follow gentle slopes and changes in ground level.

What information do you need for a quotation?

Mesh opening, wire diameter, fence height, total length, finish and colour, and the number of corners and gates.
